Warm-up for Deer Season

This past Saturday Dad, Grace, and I (T.J.) went out to the farm that Dad and I deer hunt on to scope things out and do target practice. Since last season, the family bought about a hundred more acres adjacent to their other two hundred acres. Needless to say the addition gives us a few more placement options.

Grace shot a rifle and a pistol for the first
time. She surprised Dad and me by how
accurate of a shot she was. Pretty amazing!

While Dad and Grace were sighting in the new rifle, I went into the woods with the .22 and shot two squirrels. Some might think they are cute or something (including some people in our family). Since starting to deer hunting, I have become to hate squirrels. You sit freezing and motionless when suddenly you hear something moving through the leaves. All your senses are alert ready to see a deer -- a squirrel. If it wasn't for the fact that shooting the squirrel with your deer rifle would ruin any chances of seeing a deer, you feel like blowing the squirrel into smithereens. But I now feel a lot better! Two less squirrels will bother me -- sorry animal lovers.

After many screams, we extracted what little
meat was on the squirrels. Sometime soon we
will cook up the squirrel and see how it tastes.

Deer season starts the beginning of December. Bucks with racks like the one Dad got last year or better have been seen on the farm. We'll see what we get this year. We do take volunteers who want to help butcher!
