St. Jo Fieldtrip

Today we spent the day in St. Joseph, Missouri. Mrs. Greer organized field trips to Hillyard and the the Pony Express Museum for us. We had a beautiful day: sunshine, a breeze, and temperatures in the 70's. First, we did a two hour tour of Hillyard - a cleaning supply manufacturer. Fascinating.

There were about thirty of us on the tour, ranging in
age from 2 to 23 (not counting the parents).

Hillyard was the pioneer of basketball court finishes and sponsored several of the early teams. They have the first draft of the rules for basketball which was cool to see.

The packaging line. They have a box maker!
Certain Cahills thought that was cheating!

After the Hillyard tour, we went to a park for a picnic lunch.
(Emma Laymen - Isn't she cute!)

Next we toured the Pony Express Museum.

The museum is on the site of the original stable. Some of the supports in the museum are original. There were 10,000 people outside the stable to see the first rider off!

The original well is still a working well. The kids all took turns pumping the water and taking a peek down in the well.

Our tour guide was very animated and easily held everyone's attention.

This is how our day ended...we arrived home about 4:30 and crashed. :)
