The Pig Skin Classic of Spring 2012

This afternoon, the two male dorms took the field to compete brutally for domination over the other dorm through flag football. Joining the majority of the student body, I attended the game but unfortunately remained on the side lines because of an injury. The two teams faced off with my dorm, D5, in black and the opposing dorm, D4, in white. Thus, began the long-anticipated fight to solidify D5's unprecedented fall victory as a new dynasty, not a fluke event.

Alan, our quarterback, making a pass.

The first quarter ends with two D5 scores and a score of 12 to 0! But, then began the tiring, highly competitive last three quarters.

Alan giving the D5 team the half-time pep talk.

The D5 team is ready to dominate in the second half!

The D5 team and fans watch the game from the side lines.

Alan breaks free for a large gain!

Highlights of the game include:

Alan passing an interception that was run back by Jordan for about 50 yards, but Alan ran him down. He caused a fumble. He recovered the ball for D5!

Following a snap over the head of Martyn, the punter, he recovers the ball at about the 5 yard line and sprints toward the side line punting for 30 yards in mid stride.

Three D4 players on three separate plays attempt to tackle Brett Harris (which is kind of illegal in flag football). Besides the attempts being completely unsuccessful, the players who attempted the tackles were shaken up, and Brett was unfazed!

Lining up for the last play of the game.

Victory! D5 wins the game 12 to 0, breaking the tradition of D4 as the manly dorm and of D5 as the nerdy dorm! The two consecutive wins guarantees D5's place as both the manliest and nerdiest dorm on campus, leaving D4 as the -- well, I'll let you figure that one out. :)

Although tempers had flared and players had found way to much enjoyment in slamming opponents, at the end of the game the teams of D4 and D5 join as friends and pray together.

Despite the rather hoarse throat, it was well-worth supporting D5 against D4. Go D5!!!

Thanks for posting! I loved the pictures and the highlights of the game! Where in the world did it get the name "The Pig Skin Classic"?!

Well, that would be one of those PHC traditions that probably has a long, colorful, entertaining story behind it, but I don't know the reason at the moment.
